National Museum of History and Local Lore „Mostyshchyna” in Mostyska

visual identity museum in mostyska brandboard iryna Romaniv

The museum was opened in 1994. The idea to establish the museum came
from a group of activists led by local historian and ethnographer Ivan
Sahan. The museum houses works of art, household items, archaeological
finds, numismatics, materials (documents, diaries) about the native land,
old literature, and information about prominent figures of the Mostyska
district.

The aim is to preserve local culture, promote it among the people of all
ages and present our core values: knowledge of local history, awareness
of self-identity, honoring national memory and making joint efforts for the
good of the Homeland.

The idea was to create a logo that would simultaneously reflect the local
area and an element symbolizing the museum’s activities. One of the
versions of the Mostyska emblem was taken as the basis, along with a
spindle as a symbol of human labor, as well as a reflection of the allegory
of history as a spiral that, unwinding and winding, forms the cyclical nature
of events. In this case, the thread wound around the spindle represents
the chronology of events, while the spindle itself symbolizes the entire
history—both of humanity as a whole and of the individual as a part of
society.
